An exciting opportunity is now available to join the Gladstone 2018 Combined Schools Musical Production Staff. Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC) is inviting Expressions of Interest from suitable industry and community applicants to deliver the community musical production “Shrek, The Musical”. The GECC is seeking expressions of interest for the following positions:

  • Assistant Stage Manager
  • Choreographer
  • Vocal Coach
  • Rehearsal Pianist
  • Costume Coordinator
  • Props Coordinator

These positions are volunteer positions.

Local community members and those living in the Gladstone and/or Capricornia region with experience in theatre, drama, teaching, music or similar are invited to nominate their interest. The GECC invites the community to be part of this production to develop areas of expertise within the region. To be eligible, applicants must either have a blue card or be eligible obtain one as soon as possible. If you are unable to obtain a blue card, please do not apply.

The Combined Schools Musical is a partnership between Gladstone Entertainment Centre, Gladstone Regional Council, Gladstone/District Schools and the Gladstone Community

POSITION REQUIREMENTS – ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

The Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) is responsible for supporting the stage manager in delivering the operational and production aspects of the musical.

Availability
The ASM should be available from when rehearsals start to bump out of the production.

Professional Skills

  • Experience working backstage in musical theatre or similar
  • Knowledge and experience of production sound, lighting, prop and set management
  • Experience logistically directing cast and crew backstage
  • Knowledge and skills to support Stage Manager in delivering the production as per the Stage Manager’s PD

Position Requirements

  • Ensuring all set and props are in hand and organised
  • Ensuring Costumes are in hand and organised
  • Supporting the Stage Manager in administrative tasks where required
  • Working with the Stage Manager on production elements such as scene changes, cues and cast and crew management
  • Liaising with technical crew to deliver support to the production team and Stage Manager
  • Being part of the delivery of the actual shows by assisting the Stage Manager backstage

This person must have strong administrative and organisation skills.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS – CHOREOGRAPHER

The Choreographer develops/advises on the physical movement and dance component of the production. This position is responsible for creating dance routines, exemplifying these, and assisting cast members to achieve them relative to their skill. The Choreographer must work closely with the Director at all times to ensure creative consistency and delivery.

Availability
The Choreographer must be available from specified start date until the final show.

Professional Skills

  • Qualified Dance Teacher or Instructor
  • Experience in choreography, relative to musical theatre, drama and/or dance.
  • Experience working as part of a theatre production team
  • Auditioning processes
  • Administrative skills

Position Requirements

  • Coordinate all choreography for the production, in-line with the artistic direction provided by the Director and Stage Management Requirements
  • Form part of the audition panel and arrange elements for dance auditions
  • Coordinate a choreography rehearsal schedule to fit within the broader production rehearsal schedule (working within the production team)
  • Manage administrative requirements for rehearsals
  • Develop dance routines applicable to the production, within the skill level of the cast
  • Rehearse as required to deliver high-quality choreography
  • Attend all rehearsals where required
  • Provide professional advice to the Director and Stage Manager where required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS – VOCAL COACH

The vocal coach is responsible for ensuring the vocal quality of the cast is of a high standard through coaching and rehearsing alongside the Music Director.

Availability
The Vocal Coach must be available from the specified start date through to production week.

Professional Skills

  • Experience and training in vocal coaching
  • Qualifications in vocal performance or choral work
  • Skills in working with orchestral scores
  • Experience directing choral work and performance
  • Experience in musical theatre as either crew, cast or production team

Position Requirements

  • Assist Music Director in high quality vocals
  • Learn and coach cast in all elements of vocal delivery of the production
  • Work with leads and chorus to ensure vocal integrity relative to the score and production
  • Attend rehearsals as required and work closely with the Music Director to ensure availability at rehearsals
  • Assist Music Director in scheduling for rehearsals to ensure enough attention and development is provided for vocal delivery

POSITION REQUIREMENTS – REHEARSAL PIANIST

The Rehearsal Pianist is responsible for providing musical support to the Director, Vocal Coach and Choreographer during auditions, rehearsals and production week.

Availability
The Rehearsal Pianist must be available from start date through to bump out of the production.

Professional Skills

  • Experience Pianist
  • Teaching / coaching skills or experience with a wide range of skill levels and ages
  • Working within a musical theatre environment
  • Experience working as part of a theatre production team
  • Auditioning processes

Position Requirements

  • Provide music support at Auditions.
  • Provide music support during rehearsals and vocal coaching sessions.
  • Provide music support during production week.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS – COSTUME COORDINATOR

The Costume Coordinator is responsible for obtaining all costumes needed for the production. They also work with the Director and Stage Manager in gathering appropriate rehearsal costumes early in the rehearsal process.

Availability
The Costume Coordinator must be available from start date through to bump out of the production.

Professional Skills

  • Previous experience working in a production crew for a Theatre Production
  • Preference will be given to someone with seamstress, sewing, costume making experience
  • Experience developing partnerships to achieve project outcomes
  • People Management and relationship building skills

Position Requirements

  • Work with the Director and Stage Manager to prepare a list of all Costumes required
  • Work with the preferred supplier of costumer for the production where one has been identified by the Producer.
  • Develop partnerships to assist with the sourcing, creating, making of costumes.
  • Ensure all costumes are available for rehearsals and performances when required by the Director and Stage Manager.
  • Maintain all costumes throughout the production and ensure all items are managed adequately.
  • Liaise cleaning, repairs and return of costumes after the production.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS – PROPS COORDINATOR

The Props Coordinator is responsible for obtaining all props needed for the production. They also work with the Stage Manager in gathering appropriate rehearsal props early in the rehearsal process.

Availability
The Props Coordinator must be available from start date through to bump out of the production.

  • Previous experience working in a production crew for a Theatre Production
  • Experience developing partnerships to achieve project outcomes
  • People Management and relationship building skills

Position Requirements

  • Work with the Director and Stage Manager to prepare a list of all Props required for the rehearsals and performance.
  • Develop partnerships to assist with the sourcing of Props including partnerships that involve borrowing, securing, purchasing, making, building props.
  • Ensure all Props are available for rehearsals and performances as required by the Director and Stage Manager.
  • Maintain all props throughout the production and ensure all items are managed adequately
  • Liaise return, storage of any props after the production are finished with them
