Understanding the Universe Inside the Human Body
3 March at 12pm – 12.30pm
Did you know there are 250 billion stars in the Milky Way and more than 30 trillion cells in our body? While astronauts explore the vastness of the universe, microscopists explore the tiny worlds inside our bodies and all around us. It is a frontier that is just as intriguing and complex as the galaxies that can be seen through telescopes.
Associate Professor Nigel Waterhouse is a Senior Microscopist and Cell Biologist from QIMR Berghofer. In this session, he explains how modern microscopes help us look into this complex and amazing tiny world of cells to understand who we are and how we are made. Find out how technology can help us to identify when things have gone wrong in the human body and how these problems can be solved.
